Oral Hygiene Tips for Every Age

For babies, it’s best to brush their teeth with a child-sized toothbrush and water (or non-fluoridated toothpaste that is OK to swallow) once their first tooth has erupted from the gums. You can also start flossing their chompers once two teeth grow in next to each other. Once the child turns 2-3 years old, you can introduce fluoride toothpaste, depending on the dentist’s recommendations.

For teenagers, it’s best to brush with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste twice a day and floss once a day. For even better results, you can rinse your mouth with mouthwash after you have brushed and flossed. If you have braces, make sure to brush after each time you eat and right before bed as well as floss regularly.

For adults, it’s best to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. It’s important to floss once a day, preferably after you brush right before bed. You can also rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily to improve the breath and kill bacteria.
