Keeping a diet full of foods healthy for your teeth can be a critical part of your oral health. Certain food products can damage your teeth and gums by causing dental erosion, which leads to chips and cracks in your teeth; this can also leave you at an increased risk for tooth decay or gum infection. By eating the right foods and avoiding the wrong foods, you can keep your mouth healthy and your smile beautiful.

One group of foods you should avoid is foods with high acidity; particles from these foods can eat away at your tooth enamel, causing dental erosion. Sugary foods, such as sugary drinks and candies, can also be dangerous since their sugars can cause plaque buildup. When you do eat or drink sugary food products, consume them in moderation and be sure to drink lots of water to minimize the effects of the sugar.

Watching what foods you eat becomes more important as you age. As you grow older, your teeth can become weaker and more prone to damage. Be very careful when eating hard or tough-to-chew foods that can permanently damage your teeth. Try cutting your food up into tiny, bite-sized pieces and forego eating extremely tough foods such as lollipops and corn kernels.
